This was due to inhibition of PI3K/Akt, as co-introduction of an active form of Akt (myr-Akt) abolished the effect of overexpression of PIB5PA on apoptosis induced by PLX4720 or U0126. While overexpression of PIB5PA triggered activation of Bad and down-regulation of Mcl-1, knockdown of Bad or overexpression of Mcl-1 recapitulated, at least in part, the effect of myr-Akt, suggesting that regulation of Bad and Mcl-1 is involved in PIB5PA-mediated sensitization of melanoma cells to the inhibitors. The role of PIB5PA deficiency in BRAF inhibitor resistance was confirmed by knockdown of PIB5PA, which led to increased growth of BRAFV600E melanoma cells selected for resistance to PLX4720. Consistent with its role in vitro, overexpression of PIB5PA and the MEK inhibitor selumetinib cooperatively inhibited melanoma tumor growth in a xenograft model. Taken together, these results identify loss of PIB5PA as a novel resistance mechanism of melanoma to RAF/MEK inhibitors and suggest that restoration of PIB5PA may be a useful strategy to improve the therapeutic efficacy of the inhibitors in the treatment of melanoma.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 14:44:27 AEST ]]> Three dimensional numerical modelling of conveyor belt indentation rolling resistance https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:27153 Wed 11 Apr 2018 14:06:59 AEST ]]> Estimation of loss components in a cascaded H-bridge Statcom https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:11532 Wed 11 Apr 2018 14:04:05 AEST ]]> Apoptosis is a major cause of so-called 'caseous necrosis'' in mycobacterial granulomas in HIV-infected patients https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:4489 Wed 11 Apr 2018 11:29:51 AEST ]]> Community resistance and the role of justice in shale gas development in the United Kingdom https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53610 Wed 07 Feb 2024 14:43:18 AEDT ]]> Targeting Oncogenic Signaling in Mutant FLT3 Acute Myeloid Leukemia: The Path to Least Resistance https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41430 Wed 03 Aug 2022 14:12:29 AEST ]]> Purling politics: crafting resistance with the Knitting Nannas Against Gas https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36416 Tue 28 Apr 2020 16:09:05 AEST ]]> The counter-performativity of calculative practices: Mobilising rankings of intellectual capital https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44942 Tue 25 Oct 2022 10:36:44 AEDT ]]> Ventilation inhomogeneities in children with congenital thoracic malformations https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28065 Tue 24 Aug 2021 14:27:26 AEST ]]> (Para)normalizing rape culture possession as rape in young adult paranormal romance https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:42428 Swoon, Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush, and Sarah Rees Brennan's The Demon's Covenant. Urease activity was generally not affected and showed high stability against heat disturbance. The β-glucosidase activity recovered to the control level by 30 days, while 80% and 90% recovery on average occurred for acid phosphatase and FDA hydrolase, respectively. Long-term As contamination altered soil enzyme functional resistance and resilience to heat disturbance and resulted in three kinds of responses: (i) no apparent alteration (urease); (ii) moderate As contamination increased enzyme heat resistance (β-glucosidase); (iii) the resistance and resilience decreased with increasing As concentration (acid phosphatase and FDA hydrolase). The results demonstrated that different enzyme-catalytic biochemical processes have different functional stabilities under combined As and heat disturbance, and the negative changes in the soil enzyme activity led to losses in soil functions. Our study provides further evidence on the impacts of heavy metal/metalloid on soil enzyme functional stability in response to additional disturbance.]]> Tue 14 Mar 2023 16:47:38 AEDT ]]> The membrane composition defines the spatial organization and function of a major acinetobacter baumannii drug efflux system https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:43839 Tue 04 Oct 2022 11:46:39 AEDT ]]> Power and resistance in feedback during work-integrated learning: contesting traditional student-supervisor asymmetries https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41345 Tue 02 Aug 2022 14:03:16 AEST ]]> Seeking resistance in coral reef ccosystems: the interplay of biophysical factors and bleaching resistance under a changing climate: the interplay of a reef's biophysical factors can mitigate the coral bleaching response https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41833 Thu 18 Aug 2022 10:04:59 AEST ]]> The Politics of Water Rights: Scarcity, Sovereignty and Security https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:42681 Thu 01 Sep 2022 08:45:15 AEST ]]> Locating a politics of knowledge: struggles over intellectual property in the Philippines https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:5512 Sat 24 Mar 2018 10:23:47 AEDT ]]> Human melanoma cells under endoplasmic reticulum stress acquire resistance to microtubule-targeting drugs through XBP-1-mediated activation of Akt https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:7006 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:37:51 AEDT ]]> Human melanoma cells under endoplasmic reticulum stress are more susceptible to apoptosis induced by the BH3 mimetic obatoclax https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:7007 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:37:51 AEDT ]]> Resistance versus accommodation: what to do with Romans 13? https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:8495 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:37:41 AEDT ]]> Thermal inactivation of water-borne pathogenic and indicator bacteria at sub-boiling temperatures https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:1282 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:32:29 AEDT ]]> Targeting anti-apoptotic mechanisms for reversal of resistance to BRAF inhibitors in melanoma https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:13255 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:16:00 AEDT ]]> Exercise maintains sexual activity in men undergoing androgen suppression for prostate cancer: a randomized controlled trial https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19644 n=29) or usual care control (n=28). Sexual activity was assessed by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer prostate cancer-specific quality of life questionnaire (QLQ-PR25). Results: QLQ-PR25 data were log transformed and analysis of covariance was used to compare sexual activity between groups following the intervention adjusted for baseline activity. No differences in sexual activity were observed between the exercise and control groups before the intervention. There was a significant (P=0.045) adjusted group difference in sexual activity following the 12-week intervention. Patients undergoing usual care decreased sexual activity while patients in the exercise program maintained their level of sexual activity. At baseline, 20.6 and 22.2% of participants in the exercise and control groups reported a major interest in sex (that is, high libido). Following the intervention, the exercise group had a significantly higher percentage of participants reporting a major interest in sex (exercise=17.2% vs control=0%; P=0.024). Conclusions: Participation in a short-term exercise program resulted in the maintenance of sexual activity in prostate cancer patients undergoing AST.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:01:09 AEDT ]]> "We are the ones we have been waiting for": the feminization of resistance in Venezuela https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:21719 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:52:44 AEDT ]]> Resistance https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:21043 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:50:36 AEDT ]]> Beyond practical dilemmas and conceptual reductionism: the emergence of an accommodative consciousness in the alternative globalization movement https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:6300 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:49:00 AEDT ]]> Overcoming resistance to apoptosis in cancer therapy https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:6686 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:46:12 AEDT ]]> Homology modelling of RNA polymerase and associated transcription factors from Bacillus subtilis https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:374 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:42:30 AEDT ]]> Talking back: reflecting on feminism, public relations and research https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28412 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:35:59 AEDT ]]> Economies of sainthood: disrupting the discourse of female hagiograhy https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:30482 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:26:41 AEDT ]]> Can supervised exercise prevent treatment toxicity in patients with prostate cancer initiating androgen-deprivation therapy: a randomised controlled trial https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:26742 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:24:48 AEDT ]]> Exploring adolescent computer gaming as leisure experience and consumption: some insights on deviance and resistance https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44775 Mon 24 Oct 2022 09:03:36 AEDT ]]> Law reform in the 'developmental states' of East and Southeast Asia: from the Asian Crisis to September 11, 2001 and beyond https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:32899 Mon 23 Sep 2019 11:46:48 AEST ]]> Climate and edaphic factors drive soil enzyme activity dynamics and tolerance to Cd toxicity after rewetting of dry soil https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:50223 Mon 10 Jul 2023 10:44:41 AEST ]]> ‘Repeat’ prescriptions and antibiotic resistance: findings from Australian community pharmacy https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35219 Fri 28 Jun 2019 15:01:54 AEST ]]> Resistance, paradox and professional identity in speech-language pathologists’ perceptions of working with assistants https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:33615 Fri 27 Nov 2020 16:05:14 AEDT ]]> #Education/resistance: activist media in struggles for public education https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35408 Fri 26 Jul 2019 11:49:21 AEST ]]> Competing for Life: Older People and Competitive Sport https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:708 Fri 23 Mar 2018 15:59:04 AEDT ]]> The marketised university and the politics of motherhood https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35685 Fri 21 Oct 2022 08:50:25 AEDT ]]> Biomarkers of platinum resistance in ovarian cancer: What can we use to improve treatment https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44103 Fri 07 Oct 2022 13:51:30 AEDT ]]> Strategic cultural change and local discourses: the importance of being different https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:37638 Fri 05 Mar 2021 13:45:53 AEDT ]]>
